Fabulous Finish – Celebration of learning 11th July 2018

Dear Parents/Carers

We hope you all had a wonderful half term! Thank you for your support with our fantastic Titanic topic last term. We were thrilled that the children all enjoyed it as much and seemed to learn so much about it as we did, it will be one of our most memorable topics taught.

We are now into term 6, yet another long term with the much needed summer holidays fast approaching. Our topic this term is called ‘Oh I do love to be beside the seaside’ and will most certainly get the staff and children looking forward to spending some time at the beach! If you have any holiday photos, souvenirs, postcards etc. from coastal holidays in England or a different country then please feel free to send them in with your child to share with the class. During our English lessons we will be focusing on the text of ‘The Lighthouse keeper’s Lunch’ by Ronda and David Armitage.

Reading and words to learn

Reading and words to learn

Reading and handwriting (due in on Friday)

Words to learn (due in the following Wednesday) and Brain busters (due in the following Monday)

We’d like to also take this opportunity to remind you that children need to be completing all Brain Buster questions correctly within the 7 minutes, for 5 consecutive weeks in order to move onto the next colour card. Home learning will begin the first full week back Monday 11th June 2018.

Reading at home

We are continuing our big push with reading at home over this terms. We would like the children to read to an adult at least 5 times a week. Can we remind you that this doesn’t have to just be their school reading book; it could be a book from home, a magazine or a board game that includes following instructions.

Please make sure you jot down in your child’s monkey book when you read together. As a school we keep a log of which children read at home and how often.

Hats and sun lotion
As the weather warms up please remember to send your child to school with a named sun hat and to apply sun lotion at the start of the school day, your child can bring a bottle of sun lotion into school to re-apply if required, we cannot do this for them though; it is their responsibility. They must NOT share their sun lotion with other children.

Good to be Green

On Friday afternoons the children will continue to have ‘Good to be Green' time. As the weather hopefully gets finer we will get the children outside during this time as much as possible so please keep this in mind with their choice of toy.

Healthy snacks

This term we are going to give our children fruit which the government provide for us at morning snack time. This is to reduce wastage and encourage children to eat more fruit. If you still wish to provide your child each morning with a healthy snack, this is fine but if not, they can help themselves to fruit from school.

PE

Weather permitting the children will continue to have both outdoor and indoor PE sessions this term and although the weather will hopefully become warmer they still will need to be prepared for every eventuality so please provide your child with a navy tracksuit top and navy jogging bottoms. Could we take this opportunity to remind you that children must not wear any jewellery on PE days. Stud earrings can be worn but must be covered with tape. Long hair also needs to be tied back. All uniform must be clearly labelled as it can go astray and is very hard to find the rightful owner without it being named.

Celebration of Learning

On Wednesday 11th July, Amethyst and Sapphire class will be holding an assembly to share their learning with friends and family. It will be held in the school hall at 2.30pm. Please enter through the main office. Tea and coffee will be provided by the friends of the PTA.

Art project

Each child in Amethyst and Sapphire class will need a plain white t-shirt to use for their Art project. It will also need to be labelled with the child’s name in. T-shirts will need to be in school by Monday 18th June at the latest. If you have other spare white t-shirts at home, please hand them in to your class teacher.

We hope you have all the information that you need for the term ahead, if you have any further queries please pop in and see us.

Yours Sincerely

Mrs Burton and Miss Pearce
