Sports Funding

PE and Sport Premium

Improving the provision of Physical Education and Sport in primary schools

The Government is providing additional funding to improve the provision of Physical Education and Sport in primary schools.

The funding (provided jointly by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport) will be allocated to primary school Headteachers who will have the freedom to choose how to spend the money. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on improving the provision of PE and Sport in schools. Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport we offer. The premium should be used to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
  • build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

Ofsted assesses how primary schools use the primary PE and sport premium. They measure its impact on pupil outcomes, and how effectively governors hold school leaders to account for this.

The PE Grant Allocation 2017/18

In the Financial year 2017/18, Cherhill C of E (VA) Primary School will receive a PE Grant of:

Key indicator 2: The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.

Key indicator 3: Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.

Key indicator 4: Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.

Key indicator 5: Increased participation in competitive sport.
