Community Links

Community Links

The school has a very close connection with the local community and further afield.

This relationship with the church and community allows us to worship during our special services.

The children regularly work within the local community as part of their education and visit local residents to enhance their celebrations.

Many parents and friends come into school on a voluntary basis to help in the classroom with reading, crafts and design technology. We also welcome back past pupils to complete work experience.

Our doors are always open to visitors and parents are encouraged to an afternoon of entertainment by the children to show off the work they have completed during their topic every term.

Here are a few events we have been involved with in the community

The John Bentley School

Some of our year 6 children have regular visits to JBS where they experience a broader curriculum to further enhance their learning.

We also have strong links with JBS as the local secondary school, which most of our children move on to. This supports them with the transition period from year 6 to year 7.

Springfield Academy

As well as attending JBS, some of our year 5 and 6s also attend Springfield, where they also experience a broader curriculum to further enhance their learning.

Sainsbury’s

Our school Sing-Up choir raise the profile of the school with visits to some of the local Sainsbury’s stores for seasonal sing-songs. During these visits, we also bag pack as a way of serving the community and to raise funds for the school.

Royal Wootten Bassett Arts Festival

Our school Sing-Up choir are the undisputed winners of this festival, having won the trophy a fantastic four times in a row.

Oldbury Luncheon Club

Our school Sing-Up choir visit the elderly residents of our community at the Village Hall and entertain them with a variety of song, old and new.

Calne Spring Sing and Calne Choral

These community events organised by the town council are another opportunity for our school Sing-Up choir to sparkle and shine, as well as entertain the residents of the town.

Calne Library

During National Book Week, we have a member of the library lead assembly and then organise workshops for the classes. Many of our children take part in the annual Summer Reading Challenge at the library and we celebrate their successes at the start of each academic year. Cherhill is a member of the Library and we use the resources to support our Reading Club.

Challenges with local schools

Once a year our local primary school cluster get together to take part in a series of ‘Bare Necessities’ maths challenges. Children from years 1 to 6 represent the school and enjoy competing against children from other schools. We also take part in the Calne You Debate and the Calne You Spell challenges against other local schools.
